Tony Balda has dedicated 15 years to the telemedicine industry. He has been chief executive officer since 2014. Prior to that, he was president and chief operating officer.
Tony is responsible for day-to-day business operations, the organization’s strategic advancement in the marketplace, as well as the growth and development of Medicomp companywide. Currently, he is hard at work leveraging the company’s core competencies to expand Medicomp’s patient service base, and he is leading the charge in developing strategic ways to diversify the company’s existing product portfolio.
Tony is passionate about his work, the team and what’s on the horizon for Medicomp. Part of Tony’s role, as he explains, is “peering around corners,” which is bigger than simply looking at functional reality. Rather, it’s about looking for what’s not immediately evident – what’s in the blind spot – the things that can screw you up or cause a new business opportunity to open up.
In 2004, United Therapeutics, a $5 billion biotech company and former parent company of Medicomp, employed Tony. While there, he was a key contributor in Medicomp achieving 30 percent year-on-year annual revenue and profit growth as marketing director. Then, as vice president of marketing and strategic development, he became the youngest senior manager in United Therapeutics Corporation’s history.
Tony earned his Masters in Business Administration with a health care management concentration from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He received his Bachelor of Science in applied economics and management from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
He and his wife share a love of travel and have visited all seven continents and over 40 countries. They recently welcomed their first son, Dublin, named after their favorite place in the world. They are also on the board for a local foundation that provides college scholarships for at-risk high school students.
